Welcome to our first edition of Trending Tuesday! Each week we'll describe trends that are influencing fabric design with the wish that you will be inspired to use them in your own way.
Today we are happy to be talking about Pineapples! We are finding this fruity fun motif in home and apparel fabrics, and on all kinds of accessories. They are tropical, sweet, and more than golden brown and delicious. The warm weather is here, and everyday can bring a feeling of being somewhere exotic, reminding us of lazy days on vacation in a special place, maybe with an umbrella in our drink. Colors are up to you, realistic and natural or stylized and unique.
Before we look at what’s happening, how about a little trivia? It’s commonly known that the pineapple is the universal welcome symbol, and it began in the early day of the American colonies. The legend started with the sea captains of New England, who sailed to the Caribbean Islands and brought back to the colonies their cargo of fruits, spices and rum. Legend has it that the captain would spear a pineapple on a fence post outside his home to let his friends know of his safe return. This was an invitation for them to visit, share his food and drink, and listen to tales of his voyage.
No wonder pineapples remind us of good times!
